The SOS Água e Luz app is a civil society initiative designed to show blackouts in basic services in real time. It documents the presence or scarcity of water and electricity throughout the national territory. From July to December 2022 it will be in the test phase from Rio de Janeiro, but anyone will be able to make use of it.The purpose of the application is to show the water and energy situation in the country in real time and generate data at scale, through citizen science. That is, when thousands of citizens participate in an informed, conscious and voluntary way, in the generation of large amounts of data, sharing their knowledge or experience and presenting the results. It is important that when registering your occurrence, you return to notify when the occurrence is closed. This way we can understand the intensity of the blackouts in your region. The SOS Água e Luz app is an initiative of the Sustainable Favela Network and the Unifying Panel of Favelas, which in turn are made up of numerous community-based partners and institutions that support sustainable urban development in our country. Launched in July 2022, two years after the launch of the Covid-19 Unifying Panel in Favelas, with it we hope to meet the demand for data that mobilize society and public authorities to guarantee basic rights to water and electricity. The application is open for use by the whole society and should not be used only in special areas such as favelas or quilombos. In this way, we will be able to understand the energy and water dynamics in our cities and in the countryside, without limitation. In the application, you will have the option or not to share each occurrence with defenders of these rights. If you accept and your case is part of a generalized problem in an area or region, we will send your data to the defense body that may contact you. If you do not accept, no information will be passed on.The data is treated in an extremely sensitive way, guaranteeing your privacy as much as possible. We keep all data that can identify a house or person inaccessible to the public and this data is only used for analysis in conjunction with other data, thus generating a greater understanding of these services.Any questions please contact us! [email protected] management of the Sustainable Favela Network and the Unifying Panel of Favelas is carried out by the non-profit organization Catalyst Communities (ComCat). The initiatives on their part are made up of hundreds of community mobilizers, organizations and collectives across Greater Rio.
